Listening to Your Twitter Followers and Other Users

twitter

As previously mentioned, you can keep your Twitter followers engaged with your network by connecting with them. In fact, this brings your marketing strategy at a more personal level. That’s why it is important that you know various ways on how you can keep track of what your target market and influencers are talking within your niche.

Using Twitter Search

Twitter Search can serve as a powerful tool when it comes to monitoring the people in your network. It helps you track any tweets that have something to do with your niche or primary keywords.

For example, a traveler blogger can use the Twitter Search by looking for users who are asking on the best thing to do in Kota Kinabalu. When the blogger sees a relevant tweet, he or she can reply to that particular user and give opinion. The blogger can even add a link to his or her blog that is related to the topic that they’re discussing.

Other than the basic Twitter Search, users can take advantage of the Advanced Twitter Search. This feature enables a user to get more detailed with his or her searches, like finding out who’s tweeting about a specific keyword within 15 miles of a particular area.

Bottom line: Using the Twitter Search feature helps you find the right audience for your content. All you have to do is learn how you can reach to them and present your posts.

Using Twitter List

If you want to keep up with a lot of Twitter users without following too many tweeps, you can use the Twitter List feature. This option allows you to create a list and then add up to 500 users without necessarily following them. Furthermore, it helps you sort your connection based on various category.

By adding a user on a Twitter List, you can have an idea on the most important topic that they talk about. You can even retweet their posts or respond to their messages. That way, you can always be in the know without messing your Twitter profile feed.

Another good thing about creating a list is that it can help you identify your niche’s influencers and target followers.

Twitter may not be as popular as Facebook when it comes to social media marketing, but its simple features can serve as a great tool in knowing and listening to your audience. You can even choose to automate the process to make it time-savvy. What’s important is that you will create and continue the communication with your network.

List of Facebook Page Subscribers, Now on Admin Panel

Facebook Panel

Other than the number of fans, majority of Facebook Page owners would also want to track their subscribers—especially those who don’t necessarily “like” their page. Good thing, this feature is on available on Timeline for Pages.

From the admin panel, page owners can see the name of Facebook users who recently liked their page. On top of the list is the “See All” link, which will show a pop-up window once it is clicked. The window will show a list of fans, while the list of subscribers will be visible by selecting this option from the drop-down menu.

It was also reported that page owners can now see the total number of their subscribers in the Overview section of the Page Insights. It will be visible next to Total Likes, Friends of Fans, People Talking About This and Weekly Total Reach.

However, it is unknown when Facebook added this feature on Pages. There is no documentation on the social network’s Help Center either.

Now and Then: Timeline for Pages Features

After releasing the Timeline for Pages, Facebook started providing users the option to add a page to their interest list. This enables users to subscribe to a page’s content without necessarily liking it. This feature is hidden in a drop-down menu, until last month when users started seeing the Subscribe button next to the Like button.

This option was rolled out last March, enabling users to view a filtered version of the News Feed. This feature works the same way that a Twitter List does. Prior to this, Facebook users can create list to organize and sort their friends.

The addition of this feature makes sense, as users are starting to follow more pages and subscribe to public figures. Furthermore, the News Feed becomes less useful when it shows a mixture of posts from friends and family, news outlet, brands and celebrities. This issue is being addressed by the Interest List feature, while taking another advantage from Twitter.

On the other hand, the social network did not make it clear how page owners can track their number of subscribers. As of the moment, there’s no way for them to monitor which part of interest list does their page belongs, although this feature is now available to personal profiles.

The data for page subscribers is also unavailable through the Insights API, but this could be because the percentage of people who subscribe to a page without liking it is still low.

Vanity URL: Now Available on Google+

Google+

As of late, Google+ is getting a series of updates in order to become as popular and dominant as Facebook and Twitter. The updates include addition of new features and deeper integration with other Google products. In relation to this, the search engine giant announced the inclusion of vanity URLs to their social network.

Introducing the Vanity URLs

In a blog post shared by Google’s Product Manager Saurabh Sharma, it was announced that the search engine giant has started rolling out vanity URLs to their “verified” Google+ users. Vanity URLs are short, easy-to-remember web addresses that links directly to a user’s profile.

He also added that the custom profile links will make it easier for users to find profiles on the social network. As of the moment, users are identified by a long string of uniquely assigned numbers. Customized URLs, on the other hand, were only available through third-party applications, which let users create a short link for their Google+ profile.

The release of vanity URLs on Google+ came out just days after The Oatmeal was punked with a long line of profile link.

Availability

Sharma also stated that the vanity URLs will be available to all users and pages worldwide, although no specific release date was announced. Currently, the Vanity URLs are available to selected celebrities, as well as popular brands.

“At first, we’re introducing custom URLs to a limited number of verified profiles and pages. But over time, we plan to offer custom URLs to many more brands and individuals.”

The public’s response to this feature is mostly positive, although they have been commenting that vanity URLs is a long-awaited component on the social media. Google+ looks like following the footsteps other social networks that offer this feature such as Facebook and Twitter.

Facebook started offering vanity URLs in 2009, and managed the hype by allowing high-profile users to stake their claim in advance. It appears that the search engine giant is taking the same move. However, it is yet to be known how the addition of vanity URLs can affect the way members use their Google+ profile. In addition, Google is yet to reveal their plans for mainstream users.

Hangouts Studio Mode

Other than vanity URLs, Google enhanced their Hangouts feature by adding Studio Mode. The new feature is said to improve the video service’s sound quality. Perhaps the improvement was made after the search engine giant noticed that a lot of singers and songwriters are using Hangouts to air their performance live to their audience.
